Chandigarh, January 17

Swaraj Lehar today demanded action in the case of the attack on a principal by headmaster of a primary school when the principal had visited the primary school for inspection.

According to a press release issued by Swaraj Lehar, Sukhmandirpal Singh Brar, who is posted as principal at Government Secondary School, Daddahur, Ludhiana, was told by senior officials of the education department to inspect the alleged irregularities going on in Government Primary School, Dehru, near Khanna (Ludhiana).

When principal Brar on January 14, along with another teacher Harjinder Singh, inspected the school, it was found that there were only 31 students present in the school. The school record mentioned the enrolment of 135 students.

Further inquiry from the students revealed that many of the students in the record had never attended school.

Swaraj Lehar claimed that when Brar asked headmaster Avtar Singh of the Dehru School about the ‘ghost’ students, he had no answer.

When Brar asked him to sign and put a stamp on the report, Avtar allegedly attacked him with an iron rod, leaving Brar with injuries on the head.

Prof Manjit Singh, convener of Swaraj Lehar, Punjab, said headmaster Avtar Singh should be arrested immediately.

Pradeep Aggarwal, Director General School Education, said that he might get the report on Monday.
