MYSURU: Noted political analyst Yogendra Yadav on Saturday felt the debate on tolerance in India is positioned as a battle between the majority and minority communities in the nation, while the real question as to what s happening in India is not discussed.
"It is a debate in which you can turn around and ask (actor) Aamir Khan why his wife said this to him and how did he even have the courage to talk about it in public.
We don't ask the simple question of what is happening n the country. That question is buried," he said, referring to the controversy surrounding the Bollywood actor's statement. Khan had said in November-end last year that he was alarmed that his wife Kiran Rao had asked if they should leave the country , as she feared for the safety of their children in a climate of insecurity .
Terming the debate on intolerance "odd", Yadav said: "It is a debate in which the innocent is asked to answer questions." Referring to people from across the political spectrum voicing their opinion about intolerance in India, he said it centered around getting people's opinion with little focus on what was at stake.
