The sixth edition of the three-day International Kite festival-2016 got off to a colourful start at the sprawling open fields off Savagaon Road here on Saturday.

Satish L. Jarkiholi, Small Scale Industries Minister and district in-charge, inaugurated the festival. Suresh C. Angadi, MP, and industrialist Deepak Dhadoti were present.

It has been organised by Parivartan Pariwar and presented by the former MLA Abhay Patil.

Hundreds of kites, including giant size kites, dragon kites, train kites, stunt kites, parafoils, air-inflated kites, eagles and kathakali kites filled the sky. Giant kites like motorised and fibre glass kites, traditional paper kites and designer kites added flavour to the show. Around 18 kite flyers’ teams from different parts of the country and teams from the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, U.S.A., Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, Estonia, Netherland, Italy, and France, are participating in the event.

The organisers have also organised competitions for school and college students, and women, an exhibition of consumer products and a food court as well.
