Tehri District Magistrate Jyoti Neeraj Kherwal today directed officials of all gram panchayats to prepare a work plan under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) that offers guaranteed 100 days of employment in a year to a rural household.

Joyti, while addressing a meeting of block pradhan sangathans from the district at the New Tehri auditorium, directed the officials concerned to prepare the budget in accordance to the guidelines of the Central government under the scheme and submit it without delay.

She said all investigations at the block and zila panchayat level would be completed within three days and the gram panchayats would be informed whether their proposals had been accepted or rejected.

Jyoti said the rejected schemes would be rectified and after correction would be duly approved. “Women play an important role in villages in the hill district and hence they would be given a major part of the work under the MNREGA scheme,” she added.

She directed the officials and gram pradhans to include development projects other than road construction under the scheme. She said the schemes for cleanliness such as community toilets and agriculture-based programmes would also be included. All MNREGA schemes for 2016-17 would be sanctioned before March 31 so that the work on these begins in April, said the District Magistrate.

District Development Officer PK Pandey said schemes worth Rs 136 crore had been proposed against the target of Rs 110 crore through gram panchayats for the year in the district.

He directed the officials to expedite all proposals by preparing a check list and send it to the district development office without delay so that no inconvenience to the gram pradhans was caused.

The gram pradhans also gave suggestions and demanded that if they receive the sleet and sand in time, the development work under MNREGA would speed up considerably.

President of the Chamba Pradhan Sangathan Vikram Topwal, president of the Gram Pradhan Sangathan Jakhnidhar Rajendar Kumain, and Chandramohan Bisht attended the meeting.
