AHMEDABAD: One person died while catching a kite in Kaligaam on Thursday as two youths were suspected to have died in similar circumstances in Isanpur. Police said that further questioning is on to ascertain the circumstances. A teenager died due to electrocution while he was on terrace to fly kite in Madhavpura but police does not link it directly with Uttarayan-related deaths.

According to Sabarmati police, Gangaram Ajoriya, 51, a resident of New Railway Colony , Kaligaam, was trying to catch a kite from his third floor balcony when he lost balance and fell down. He was taken to the nearby railway hospital where he was declared brought dead.
In another incident, two youths, both around 25 years of age, had died on railway track near Maninagar at 4.30 pm on Thursday . One of the victims is identified as Parmeshwar Pasi, a resident of Narol by Isanpur police. As per the locals, one youth was trying to catch the kite near the railway line whereas the other tried to stop him.
EMRI 108 officials said that on January 14 and 15 they received 3,218 and 1,922 emergencies respectively out of which around 15% cases were related to Uttarayan festivities such as fall, bleeding injuries and unconsciousness. Officials said that Thursday evening received the highest case due to large number of kite enthusiasts on terraces.
The urban areas recorded more than half of the total cases registered, they added.
