SAMBALPUR: The coronation ceremony of Kansa marked the beginning of Dhanu Yatra at Bargarh town on Thursday. The town is decked up as Mathura and the neighbouring Amapali as Gopapur while the Jeera river becomes the Yamuna during the 11-day festival.
Kansa rules the town and the residents become his obedient subjects. The episodes from the demon king's life is enacted at 14 main places in these two towns.
Hrushikesh Bhoi is playing Kansa for the eighth consecutive time. "It will end on January 24 with the coronation ceremony of Ugrasen after the death of Kansa. More than 100 troupes will perform during the festival," said secretary of Dhanu Yatra Committee Sureswar Satpathy.
