Chennai: The King Institute of Preventive Medicine on Thursday signed an MoU with Sri Ramachandra Medical University to conduct research on infectious diseases.
The objective behind the MoU is to collaborate and conduct research in virology, bacteriology , pharmacology , biomedical nanotechnology and preventive medicine.
“All these days, if there were any infectious disease outbreaks and we were unable to identify the strains of bacteria or virus causing it, we would send the samples to Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta for testing.
Now we can send them to SRMU and once the diagnosis is out, we can start control measures,“ said director of King Institute, Dr Gunasekaran.
Dr S P Thiagarajan, Dean of Sri Ramachandra Medical University , said India was reeling under the burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases and a lot of time was spent on testing.
“Such ventures will ensure that time bound deliverables will be brought and we can jointly focus and innovate newer diagnostic agents,“ he said.
