Floral tributes were paid to Nyapathy Subba Rao Pantulu, who founded The Hindu in 1878 along with five others, on his 160th birth anniversary on Thursday.
Nyapathy Raghava Rao, grandson of Subba Rao Pantulu, and others garlanded the statue of the latter at The Hindu Square. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Raghava Rao said that his grandfather was among those who had inspired the youth. Industrialist and BJP leader Kantipudi Sarvarayudu recalled the contribution of Subbarao Pantulu through The Hindu.
“Though there are several newspapers, students, preparing for civil services examinations, still prefer The Hindu,” he said.
Mr. Nyapathy Lakshmi Narasimha Rao, another grandson of Subba Rao Pantulu, said that his grandfather’s statue was installed in May 2010 beside the District Court Complex and the centre was later named as The Hindu Square.
State SC, ST Employees’ Association leaders Korukonda Chiranjeevi and Talluri Babu Rajendra Prasad were among those who paid tributes to Subbarao Pantulu.
