Here is good news for farmers of Bariyavaas, Sehbajpur and Konsivaas villages who have been staging an indefinite dharna at Colonel Ram Singh Chowk here for three days. The compensation announced for their land acquired to construct a 120-wide road in the city may be raised.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has asked the district authorities to send him a report about the land acquired for the project, its market value and location so that appropriate action could be taken over the demand being raised by agitating farmers, sources said.

The development happened after Forest Minister Rao Narbir Singh today interacted with the CM regarding the issue over phone and urged him to raise the compensation for sorting out the issue, the sources said.

Earlier, a delegation of the farmers today called on Rao Narbir at his house in Gurgaon, urging him to raise their issue before the CM so as to protect them from devastation.

The farmers said the compensation for their land had been announced lesser than the market price. The government should award them compensation Rs2.5 crore per acre, they added.

“The market rate of land is more than Rs2 crore per acre in Bariyavaas village, while the government has announced the award between Rs66 lakh and Rs85 lakh despite the fact that registry of 1 acre was done for Rs1.15 crore here in 2013,” said a farmer of Bariyavaas village.

Around 100 acres have been acquired to construct a road to connect Rewari city with Delhi-Jaipur National Highway (NH-8). The award for the land was announced here around 10 days ago.

Rao Narbir said “I have apprised the CM of the farmers’ demand over phone and requested him to raise the compensation. The CM has sought report from officers concerned. I am confident that he will take the decision in favour of the farmers.”
