Souharda Vedike convention on Jan. 30

The Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike will organise “Sahabalveya Saagara”, a national convention to propagate the need of peaceful coexistence in the Town Hall here on January 30.

‘Peaceful coexistence’

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, K.L. Ashok, the general secretary of the vedike, said that this coastal region had a history of peaceful coexistence of various communities and cultures.

The event was the way to remind this fact to people of the region, which was now regarded as communally sensitive.

Mr. Ashok said the day-long convention will see participation of activists from as many as 18 States.

Vedike activists from different parts of the State will participate. Activists will be coming in a rally from eight different parts of the State and reaching Mangaluru on January 29.

Inauguration

Writer Baraguru Ramachandrappa will inaugurate the event, psephologist and Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav are expected to deliver the valedictory address.

Among the programmes during the day include staging of playwright Prasanna’s “Kondavaryaru” play by Spandana Sagar team.

There will be the staging of Yakshagana, the playing of Daff, rendition of vachanas and sufi songs.

There will be talks on reformer Narayana Guru, Ullal Queen Rani Abbakka, freedom fighter Kudmal Ranga Rao and Bappa Beary.
