The Merangin administration is set to build a special settlement for the Suku Anak Dalam nomadic tribal community, which lives deep in the forest in Jambi, Sumatra.

Merangin Regent Al Haris said the central government had approved construction of the special settlement, which is an effort to help avoid conflict between the Suku Anak Dalam tribe and local residents in areas across Jambi.

'€œAs a conflict solution, we will build a special village for members of the Suku Anak Dalam tribal community. We proposed it to the government and Alhamdulillah [thank God], the ministries have approved the plan,'€ said Haris on Tuesday.

The ministries that approved the proposal are the Social Affairs Ministry, the Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Ministry, the Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Ministry, the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, the Health Ministry and the National Land Agency (BPN).

Haris said the Merangin administration had been requested to prepare details of the plan and the relevant ministries would synergize and share tasks in developing infrastructure for the settlement.

Citing an example, the regent said the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry would develop houses and supporting infrastructure while the Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Ministry would develop education facilities. Other ministries would help develop the settlement according to their field of expertise.

'€œOur concept is to provide a special transmigration program for members of the Suku Anak Dalam tribe. We will educate them about farming techniques and living in a permanent settlement. In the future, we will develop Suku Anak Dalam villages that will be created as cultural tourism destinations,'€ said Haris. (ebf)(+)
