Four months on, consumer court gets new head
MUMBAI: The Maharashtra State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission got a new president on Monday.
Justice Ashok Pitambar Bhangale (62), who retired as a judge of the Bombay high court in September, will take over the position left vacant following the resignation of Justice R C Chavan in October.
Justice Bhangale will be welcomed in a ceremony organized by the Consumer Court Bar Association at the new premises of the state commission on Tuesday.
Advocate Uday Wavikar, vice-president of the association said that appointment will be helpful in taking forward the initiative of digitizing, which had commenced in Justice Chavan’s tenure. “It was Justice Bhangale who had suggested the use of Skype in the HC instead of the more expensive video conferencing call method,” said Wavikar.
“In view of consumer forums going in for digitization, an agency has also developed a package for filing online complaints and with the new premises and more infrastructure, an experienced head like the Justice Bhangale, I have full trust that good days have come,” Wavikar said.
Hailing from Jalgaon, Justice Bhangale was previously appointed as the principal judge of the Bombay City Civil and Sessions Court from May 2007 till his elevation to the HC in 2008.
