Do you know what Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra ambassadors of?

One of the most talked about topics in the country right now is Amitabh Bachchan replacing Aamir Khan as the brand ambassador of Incredible India. While this particular ambassadorship has caught everyone���s attention, more often, the myriad celebs promoting states or government projects often go unnoticed.

Have you ever seen or heard Prachi Desai promoting Goa tourism, or did you know that Dharmendra and Hema Malini were recently chosen as brand ambassadors for Haryana tourism? Every few days, there are reports of some celeb being roped in to promote a state and be its brand ambassador, and you would assume that they have some connection to it.
Surprisingly, that is often not the case ��� Gujarat-born Prachi Desai is promoting Goa, Delhiite Virat Kohli is promoting Uttarakhand. On the other hand is Amitabh Bachchan, who has a dozen ambassadorships ��� from polio, TB and Hepatitis B to Gujarat tourism, Maharastra���s Save the Tiger campaign and Andhra Pradesh���s medical and health department.

Irrfan for Rajasthan and minority affairs
The actor was chosen by the Rajasthan government as the face of their tourism campaign for the state, called Resurgent Rajasthan. Though many don���t seem to know about this new face of Rajasthan, at least the actor is Jaipur-born. In 2013, Irrfan was also chosen as the brand ambassador of the Minority Affairs ministry. In an interview to DT, he had said, ���I���m not looking at it as a religious or a political thing. I could be an ambassador for Christians, for that matter, or for any other minority which needs to be brought into the mainstream.���

Prachi Desai for goa
Prachi Desai might be from Gujarat, but it seems like her 60s��� Mumbai girl look in Once Upon A Time In Mumbai impressed the Goan authorities so much that she was made the face of Goa in 2010. She even starred in a TV commercial to promote Goa as a holiday destination.

SRK for Bengal
The only connection Shah Rukh Khan has to Bengal is that he owns Kolkata Knight Riders and he played a Bengali in 'Devdas'. But the actor���s camaraderie with the West Bengal CM is quite apparent. It was still a little surprising when he was appointed as the state���s brand ambassador in 2012. Since then, the actor has been part of several events there ��� the memorable one being the Kolkata Police event where he danced with a policewoman ��� and has also done an ad film.

Madhuri for the girl child
Last year, Madhuri Dixit-Nene was announced as the brand ambassador for the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign of the government. She has been putting her weight behind gender issues and has participated in several ads too.

Anushka and Virat to promote Uttarakhand���s char dham yatra!
It is anybody���s guess what Delhi boy Virat Kohli is doing promoting Uttarakhand. He was roped in last year to be the state���s brand ambassador and has also done a promotional ad. But that���s not all. Anushka Sharma has also been roped in to promote the state���s 'Chaar Dhaam Ki Yatra' with Virat. But to be fair, Anushka���s mom is Garhwali.

Vidya Balan for sanitation
Vidya Balan is one of the most visible ambassadors, as ads done by her air frequently. The actress has often voiced her opinion on child education and is also the national sanitation brand ambassador. In 2012, Vidya was roped in as the face of the government���s drinking water and sanitation programme and has appeared in several campaigns for it.

Parineeti for Haryana���s girls?
In July last year, Parineeti Chopra was announced as the Haryana government���s ambassador for the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao: Call to Action' campaign at an event which had Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar in attendance. However, a few days after the event, the state���s Social Justice, Empowerment and Women and Child Development minister, Kavita Jain, said that she was not the brand ambassador but had expressed her wish to work for the campaign.

Hema and Dharmendra for Haryana
Though they have no apparent connection with Haryana, Hema Malini and Dharmendra were recently announced as the brand ambassadors for Haryana Tourism. The state���s tourism minister Ram Bilas Sharma announced that the duo would be special invitees at the annual Surajkund mela. Also, did you know that Hema Malini is the ambassador of Uttarakhand���s Sparsh Ganga campaign?

Priyanka for health and education
Priyanka, who is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, has participated in joint initiatives of the Indian government and UNICEF like 'Sabla'. Besides, during the UPA regime, environment and forest minister Jairam Ramesh roped her in to participate in chalking out environment-friendly campaigns on a national basis.
