LUCKNOW: Taking a dig at the vice-chancellor of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) Padma Shri RC Sobti, Union minister of human resource development Smriti Zubin Irani on Sunday said that he appears more like a politician, and less of a V-C. ``The words used by the V-C here gives me a feeling of a political dais,’’ said Irani who was the chief guest at the 20th foundation day of BBAU on Sunday.

Irani said this after Sobti read a poem showering praises for her. From `TV ki maharani’ to `abhinetri, `sansad me netri’ to `tyagini’, `balidani’ one who sacrifices), Sobti’s five-paragraph poem termed Irani’s face as `noorani’ (shining).
Addressing the audience, Irani announced that the government will, like the online content on portal, e-pathshala, provide 12,000 extra learning modules in higher education for free via mobile app.
Praising the university for adopting five villages for imparting education, Irani said, ``The number of villages to be adopted should go upto 10 this year. Only then, the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan will be successful.''
On her first visit to the university, Irani exhorted students to think beyond a plum job and fat salary packages after they graduate. ``You should use your knowledge in enlightening the life of a deprived. This will be your gift to the nation,’’ Irani said to the students.
On the occasion, Irani also laid the foundation of a new block of girls’ hostel building.
