Rice mill raided; 2,650 bags of ragi seized

Officials of the departments of Revenue and Food and Civil Supplies raided a rice mill on Friday and seized 2,650 bags of ragi that were stocked illegally there.

The raids were part of the special drive of the department to prevent the illegal storing of ragi.

Acting on a tip-off, the team led, by Assistant Commissioner (Revenue, Mandya subdivision) Arul Kumar and Deputy Director (Food and Civil Supplies) Kumuda Sharath, raided Sri Jayashankara Rice Mill at Kiragandur in the district and seized ragi bags weighing 50 kg each.

“We have launched a drive to prevent the illegal sale and storing of ragi in the district recently,” Ms. Sharath said.

Speaking to this correspondent on Friday, she said that officials had already raided some places and seized 17,700 bags of ragi that were stocked illegally.
