Like Lal and Renji Panicker, M A Nishad is another filmmaker who has succeeded in making a transition from a director to an actor. He will next be seen in debutant Sujith S Nair’s Vakku as an ambulance driver.
“It’s a pivotal character in the film,” says M A Nishad, adding, “My character is a layman who is gifted an ambulance to sustain his livelihood. He toils for his family and when his son gets an admission to an engineering college, he is on cloud nine.
His life though goes through a sea change after that.”
Anu Hasan will be playing the character of Nishad’s wife in the movie, scripted by Madhupal. “I suggested her name and she was thrilled to be part of the project after hearing the story. She found it socially relevant.”
Incidentally, Nishad had shared screen with Anu’s uncle Kamal Hassan in 1982 for a Malayalam film titled Anthiveyilile Ponnu. “I was 10 years then so I don’t remember much about the acting bit but it’s sheer coincidence that I got to share screen with Anu in this film,” he says. Nishad, who had directed No. 66 Madhura Bus and Best of Luck, will be seen in two getups in the film. “I will be seen playing a 35 year old as well as a 57 year old in the movie. It shows two different stages of a father’s life,” says the director, who had previously acted in She Taxi and Valiya Chirakulla Pakshikal.
