Itanagar: Reports of rampant extortion activities by NSCN (Reformation) have been reported from Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of Arunachal. Police have arrested two of its cadres at Kheti village of Tirap district last Sunday.
The personnel of 1st Assam Rifles, Assam Rifles Field Intelligence Unit and state police conducted a joint search operation at Kheti village which led to the arrest of the two NSCN (R) cadres, identified as SS Lt Wingan Agan (26) and SS Sergeant Damwang Bangsia.
Bot of them are from Tirap.
One assault rifle, one automatic pistol with ammunition, extortion notes and receipts/letter heads of NSCN (R) were seized from them, a report said here on Tuesday. The cadres had been threatening local people and carrying out rampant extortion, said a local on conditions of anonymity.
Members of the reformation group and their leaders in Longding, Tirap and Changlang have started threatening local people and are forcibly recruiting the youths, the report said.
This is the second successful operation launched by 1st Assam Rifles in Tirap.
In an earlier operation, on November 19 last year, security forces retrieved one automatic pistol, ammunition, round stamp and appointment stamp of NSCN (R) faction, cash and several undelivered and delivered extortion notes on the faction's letter head, addressed to public and government officials, at Kheti village.
The NSCN (R) was formed post abrogation of ceasefire by NSCN (Khaplang). Since April last year, the NSCN (R) has been attempting to establish its base in Longding, Tirap and Changlang. The reformation group is now extensively involved in extortion, the report added.
