The timber agents of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri will not be allowed to deal in the timber business without taking licence from the Marketing Board. They will have to get licences in 10 days under the provisions of the Haryana Agricultural Produce Markets Act, 1961.

Yamunanagar Deputy Commissioner SS Phulia yesterday assured Haryana Lokayukta Justice Pritam Pal that after 10 days, no timber agent would be allowed to deal in the business without licence.

In December, the Lokayukta had ordered the Yamunanagar administration to shift the timber market from the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri and enforce all rules and regulations of the Haryana Agricultural Produce Markets Act, 1961, so that the entire business is carried out as per the provisions of the said Act.

The Lokayukta had asked the administration to submit a compliance report of his order on January 4.

The Lokayukta provided some relief to Yamunanagar’s timber agents on the issue of shifting of the timber market. The administration will first make arrangements of a temporary timber market in four months and then it will be shifted. The Lokayukta also ordered that the timber merchants who were already doing their business at the existing place should be allowed to continue till the temporary arrangements were made, but at the same time they would do their business only after taking the licence in accordance with the Act. The Lokayukta adjourned the matter to May 4.
