Swaralaya award for Ouseppachan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Music director Oueppachan has been selected for this year's SwaralayaKairali Yesudas award. Veteran playback singer Vani Jairam will get the award for outstanding contributions. It was announced by jury chairman and M A Baby here on Sunday .
The jury also comprised K Omanakutty Amma, M Jayachandran, K V Mohankumar, Ravi Menon and G Raj Mohan.
The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, statuette designed by sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman and citation. Instituted in honour of playback singer K J Yesudas, the award will be presented in `Gandharva Sandhya' a musical event to held in the city in the last week of January “Ouseppachan has been in the music industry for the last thirty five years and contribution of Vani Jairam span the music industry across the country .“ said Baby.
Speaking about the delay in creating a data record of the songs of K J Yesudus, music composer M Jayachandran said that the committee members of Swaralaya were documenting the collections.
