JAIPUR/AJMER: The high alert in Rajasthan continued a day after the Panthankot terror attack as security was beefed up at railway stations, bus stands and tourists places.
A meeting of SHOs in the city's north police district was called on Sunday. The SHOs were directed to be extra vigilant at all the tourists places in the district including Amber Palace, Nahargarh and Jal Mahal.
Addl DCP (north) Sameer Dube said the SHOs were also asked to step up security arrangements at the tourist places. "They were asked to keep a watch on suspicious activities," said the officer.
The Walled City that was rocked by serial blasts in May 2008 is also in the north district. "The policemen will keep a watch on suspicious activities and luggage lying unattended. We will also request the people to inform us if they come across anything suspicious in the crowded markets of the Walled City," an official said.
The security was stepped up at railway station and bus stand in Jaipur.
An alert was sounded in Ajmer and Pushkar and intelligence agencies and police are keeping vigil on railway station and bus stand. But as per the directions from home ministry, for the first time vigilance has been raised at nearby regions of army cantonment of Ajmer and Nasirabad. High alert was also called at Baid Chabad - community centre of Israelis in Pushkar which was on the list of terrorists after Pakistan-born terrorist David Headly made recee of this place.

The police have increased the security of the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti and Brahma Temple of Pushkar apart from railway station and bus stand," said a police officer.
"The major concern for the state police is the security of Chabad - the Israeli community centre at Pushkar and we have already deputed armed force 24 hours a day," added the official. He added that vigilance has been increased at chabad looking to the previous terror attacks at Israeli centre in Pune.
But sources said that looking to the recent attacks in India, the intelligence agency of Central government has for the first time asked to increase vigilance in the surrounding regions where cantonments or Army-based institutes are situated. "They have been asked to keep watch twenty four hours on the suspicious persons who recently came to live in the cantonment areas," said an official source.
According to military intelligence sources, strict vigil is being kept at important Air Force airports in Rajasthan including Jaisalmer, Barmer, Phalodi, Suratgarh, Jodhpur Air Force base and also Chandan field firing range in Jaisalmer. Director, Jodhpur Civil Airport, S K Singh, said, "we have invoked high alert and entry for any person other than passengers has been barred till further orders. Entry ticket counter has also been closed".
Sources said that people coming to Air Force bases are being allowed to enter after strict checking. A complete ban has been imposed on carrying mobile phones with camera. Labourers coming for construction works and their equipment are being checked. Strict watch is being kept on people roaming around airports, sheep and goat grazers and suspicious persons.
