A still from Kaadhal Kaalam

Off to a good start

The year has started on a high for actor Ganesh Prasad. His debut film Tharkappu and second film Karaiyoram, have both been released. While in the former, he plays a negative role, in the latter, he has shared screen space with Vasishta. The two years of experience he gained as an executive producer, under producer-actor R. K. Suresh of Studio 9, has given him the confidence to venture into acting. “As a newcomer, I cannot ask for more. And now, two more films are getting ready for release. In Nattrinai I play an encounter cop. I am also currently shooting forArasiyalla Ithellam Sagajamappa, which is a comedy-political thriller,” says Ganesh Prasad.

Scent of a village

Director G. A. Somasundhara has roped in Tamil theatre artistes from Gobichettipalayam and its surrounding areas, for key roles in his film Kaadhal Kaalam. “It is a love story that makes comments on today’s youngsters and their relationships with parents and other members of their family. I have cast two newcomers—Puvi Aravind (Kamal Haasan’s assistant) and Raffik (director Vasu’s assistant),” says Somasundhara.

Another important role is played by a leading drama artiste, Karuppu Sumathi. “All of them have dubbed in their own voices in the local dialect, giving the film a strong regional flavour.” Folk music for the film has been composed by newcomer S. Jeyananthan.
