Assam University gets new acting vice-chancellor

Silchar: Ranju Rani Dhamala has become the new acting vice-chancellor of Assam University, Silchar.
Dhamala, a dean of the department of social sciences and the senior-most professor of the central university, took over from Bhuleshwar Mate, the incumbent acting vice-chancellor, on Thursday following the latter's retirement.
Dhamala, also a professor in the department of political science, will perform the duties of a VC till a new, permanent VC joins, AU sources said on Friday.
The VC's post of Assam University fell vacant after earlier incumbent Somnath Dasgupta tendered his resignation on November 13, 2015.
