AMC flower show comes with New Year fragrance

Ahmedabad: The New Year brings fragrance for Amdavadis in the form of a flower show. The week-long fourth edition of annual flower show by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is slated to begin from Saturday on Sabarmati Riverfront behind National Institute of Design.
The main attraction of the show will be a vertical garden. This year's flower show will be spread in around 65,000 sq meter, while the last year show had covered 55,000 sq meter area.The expenditure for the show is expected to be around Rs one crore.
Mayor Gautam Shah told reporters that the AMC for the first time intends to introduce a walk-in drawing competition for the kids who come to the show. They can draw on the spot and submit their drawings. About 21 stall selling organic and other garden equipment and 20 nurse ry stalls will be set at the show.
The mayor said that in order to facilitate people's commuting to the show the AMC has introduced buses from major AMTS termini and also decided to increase the frequency of Bus Rapid Transit System buses.
Last year, the foot falls at the show were around 10 lakh, while this year, the AMC is hoping 15 lakh visitors. Last year, the sale of flowers and other sapling was to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore.
Over three lakh plants and saplings of various species will be on display at the show. Interestingly , for the first time, there will be a separate area giving expertise to the visitors to create vertical garden at their residences.The vertical garden is meant for those living in flats and bungalows.
Main attractions of the show include plant sculptures and landscaping, exhibition of paintings on flower theme painted by school children, live demonstration of green house, stalls sharing information on various schemes launched by the state go vernment's horticulture department, exhibition-cumsale of plants by various nurseries from across the country, stalls selling fertilizer, seeds, pesticides and tools, organic farm produce stalls and food stalls.
