Nadi Aim For Good 2016

The Rewa Galaxy Football National League defending champions aims for a successful 2016 with the competition starting on February 14.

Nadi Football Association president Navaneeda Gounder said though 2015 was a good year for them, they need to maintain the momentum.

“2015 was a really good year for us, winning the National League and Pacific Cup,” Gounder said.

“Our aim for 2016 is to improve from where we left off and actually make it a great year for Nadi.

“It will be tougher this year because teams have had time to prepare for the new season.

“So we have our work cut out for us this year but we are willing to work and train hard in order to improve from last year.”

There will be eight teams expected to participate in the 2016 Rewa Galaxy Football Premier League tournament with the Dreketi being the newcomers to the tournament.

With the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League (O’League) starting up in April, it is one of the most important regional events that local clubs have the privilege to participate in.

“This year is extra important because of the O’League which is a major tournament for us,” he said.

“That is our primary focus for now but we are anticipating a good year for the association and we want to start that by doing well in the O’League.”

“We have some overseas players that will be joining us but we are not sure who we will be bringing in. But we know that their inclusion would be a lot of benefit to our team.”

Nadi is in Group C with AS Magenta (New Caledonia) and AS Tefana (Tahiti) with the winner for the OFC Champions League Preliminary winner to take the third spot.

Defending champions are Auckland City FC.

The tournament will be held on April 8-23 in Auckland and Wellington, New Zealand.Edited by Osea Bola
