Two booked for fraud of Rs15 lakh
Nagpur: City police on Thursday registered offence of cheating and criminal breach of trust against Ashok Alwani and Mahesh Uttamani for allegedly duping Sunil Chhabriya of Rs15 lakh.
It’s learnt that Chhabriya and Uttamani had purchased a property worth Rs15 lakh at Golibar Chowk in 2011. In 2013, Chhabriya had issued a power of attorney in the name of Alwani to represent him, but had not given him authority to enter into any deal without his consent.
The dispute kicked off in 2014 when Chhabriya revoked the power of attorney but Alwani managed to transfer the property in his name, claiming to have paid the price to the complainant and Uttamani.
Chhabriya claimed before police that he had issued a public notice too regarding revoking of the power of attorney but still the property was transferred. Chhabriya also lodged a complaint against Uttamani too, for supporting Alwani in the matter.
Chhabriya had earlier approached Tehsil police station but later filed a complaint with Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of crime branch. The offence was not registered by the crime branch for one year, until DCP Deepali Masirkar and DCP Ranjan Sharma intervened. Tehsil police then registered an offence under section 420 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for cheating and 406 IPC for criminal breach of trust. Police have not made any arrest in the case yet.
