Bengaluru: Four persons were arrested by Yelahanka New Town police for kidnapping Vaidyanath, 17, a student.
All four are students who live close to Vaidyanath's residence in Bettahalasuru.
“The four knew Vaidyanath's father was wealthy and decided to make some quick money by kidnapping him.The plan was to ask for Rs 20 lakh in ransom, but they decided to ask for Rs 15 lakh.
Before the ransom calls could be made, police tracked them through their mobile location but they managed to escape when we reached the eucalyptus farm where Vaidyanath was being held,“ Yelahanka New Town police said.
Police had got their phone number from Zoom, the car agency from where they had hired a vehicle.
Based on this phone number, police got call records and realized the four had made calls to their friends during and after the abduction. Based on the tower locations, the four were tracked down and arrested, police officials said. The arrested are Naveen Kumar, 22, Ajith, 21, Edwin, 24, and Damodar, 20. Vaidyanath was on his way to college with his friend when their bike was stopped by a car. Vaidyanath was assaulted and dragged into the vehicle while his friend was left behind. The friend noted down the number of the vehicle and alerted police.
