GUWAHATI: Two trucks, containing 33 heads of cattle, were seized by BSF troops deployed at Beltoli in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya on Wednesday.
The troops apprehended seven cattle-smugglers during the operation; two of the seven were from Assam's Barpeta district. The smugglers confessed that the cattle was intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
Sources in BSF said cattle smugglers had increased their activity in Muktapur, Nayabazar, Tuka and Dawki areas along the border.

The BSF troops had seized 2,052 heads of cattle this year. Besides, some 26,062 bottles of illegal liquor, 5,464 Phensedyl bottles and contraband worth Rs 9 crore had been seized throughout the year in various operations along the India-Bangla border.
