Steps for giving free electricity connection to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families will be completed in a month’s time, Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed has said. They would also be provided with two LED bulbs, the Minister said. Inaugurating the construction work on a 33 kV substation at Attapallom near Kumily on Thursday, the Minister said Kerala was the only State in the country where power cut was not enforced. He said the focus was on reducing power consumption and loss in transmission to avoid power cut.

The Minister said that steps were on to complete construction work on two more substations in the district. He said that it would help in augmenting power supply and thereby avoiding power disruptions.

The Minister said that the contractor was directed complete work on the substation within 10 months.

The new substation would be connected with an overhead 33 kV line from the 66 kV substation at Vandiperiyar., he said. The project is expected to cost Rs.914 lakh.
