Maoist gives up arms in Angul

BHUBNAESWAR: Maoist Manoj Dehury, alias Madhab, of Sambalpur-Deogarh- Sundargarh division of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) on Wednesday surrendered before SP (Angul) Rajesh Pandit.
Dehury is a native of Jokub village under Purunakote police limits in Angul district. He joined the Red outfit after being inspired by Maoist leader Kunu Dehury, alias Bijay, said police.
He had been working for the banned outfit since 2014.
He was involved in Chhotkei beat house attack and Chuanri beat house burning in Angul district, said Pandit.
Police claimed Dehury said the extremists recently chalked out a plan to create a corridor along the border of Angul, Boudh and Kandhamal up to Kalahandi district. He also told the police that ultras from Jharkhand are meting out step-motherly treatment to cadres from Odisha. They also sexually exploit local women cadres, he added. The Red rebel said Purunakote, Bantala, Thakurgarh and Handapa in Angul is a safe haven for cadres. Though Dehury did not surrender any arms, the SP said he admitted to possessing a .303 rifle. Dehury left the Maoist organization when he found the ultras are deviating from their ideology, added the SP.
