Fiji Volleyball rep Qilu Elliott has applauded the annual 23rd Tui Suva Youth Volleyball tournament in promoting minor sport here.

The one-day tournament which was held at Suvavou Volleyball Courts in Lami on Monday attracted a lot of youths along with more than 18 teams taking part in the three categories; men’s, women’s and sub juniors.

The 37-year-old represented Fiji in the Pacific Games in 2011 in Nouméa and the 2013 Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna has had a soft spot for the sport ever since learning to play the sport when he could hold the ball.

“Volleyball is a passion of mine and I am always constantly trying to get involved in any tournament that I can.

“When I go to these tournaments I see the amount of people it attracts and I believe small community tournaments such as the annual Tui Suva volleyball competition is just an example.

“Not everyone can play rugby, netball or soccer and so that’s when minor sports come into the picture and I must applaud the efforts of the organising committee for making this event happen every year,” Elliot said.

“Not only will it promote volleyball but it also brings people together and we all know that sport brings people together.”

Elliott, who played for the Hardrock Vunimago in the tournament, played alongside with three other national reps and brothers, Anthony Phillip and Michael Foster.
