The Yoga Narasimhaswamy temple will distribute two lakh laddoos to the public on New Year day. What began as a small initiative by the temple, located at Vijayanagar, in 1994 grew bigger in concept over the years as the number of devotees swelled and one lakh laddoos were being distributed till 2012.

However, the authorities doubled their efforts in view of the growing number of devotees and increased laddoo production to two lakh from 2013. While there will be two lakh laddoos of 100 gm weight, nearly 5,000 laddoos of 1.5 kg weight will also be prepared and 50 specialists, under the leadership of Ganesh Rao of Vidyaranyapuram, have been roped in for the purpose, according to Srinivas, temple trustee.

The specialists have been working since December 16 to meet the target of two lakh laddoos for distribution on January 1, Mr. Srinivas said.

About 50 quintals of groundnut, 100 quintals of sugar, 400 tons of pure oil, 150 kg of cardamom, 100 kg dry grapes, 50 kg badam, and 200 kg of diamond sugar are being used to prepare the sweetmeat.

Mr. Srinivas said the laddoos will be distributed to every one visiting the temple irrespective of caste or creed and the objective is to usher in world peace and harmony by recognising the equality of all faiths while celebrating the New Year. “We expect nearly 75,000 to 1 lakh devotees on January 1. The temple will open at 4 a.m. for special worship and will be open for darshan from around 5.30 a.m.,” he said.
