Police officers who scrutinised CCTV footage at Bhandup railway station said, “we could see him at the platform. He tried to get into one train but could not because it was crowded and then just disappeared as CCTV could not capture his movements further. He never went to work that day and never returned home,” said a police officer.

Police said the family has said that Mahavir suffered from no history of mental illness, memory loss or depression. “We sent a search party with dogs. We checked hospitals, morgues and CCTV footage of railway stations but have no leads so far on his whereabouts,” admitted the officer.

Festive offer

The family, in a statement, told police they suspect no reason for Mahavir to “suddenly disappear” as he was not troubled. He has two children, one works in the UK. Mahavir, who graduated from IIT Bombay in 1978, lives in a joint family.
