Welcome the new year with a festival of books

The Vijayawada Book Festival Society (VBFS) will organise the 27{+t}{+h}book festival at PWD Grounds on Bandar Road here from January 1 to 11.

Addressing a press conference, VBFS president B. Babjee said writer Acharya Rachapalem Chandrasekhar Reddy would inaugurate the festival.

Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani), Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Vijayawada (Central) MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and Mayor Koneru Sridhar would take part in the inaugural session, he said.

The festival premises would be named after eminent publisher Muvvala (Jayanthi) Perumallu in recognition of his services to the publishing industry.

Jana Vignana Vedika founder president V. Brahma Reddy and senior journalist C. Raghavachari will address the gathering. The literary forum dais will named after noted critic Chalasani Prasad. A memorial meeting of Chalasani Prasad will be organised on January 2, he said.

‘Walk for the Books’, a walkathon, will be organised on January 4 from Gandhi Nagar Press Club to the exhibition venue.

10 per cent discount

The Society will also organise the birth centenary of writer Buchibabu on January 5. The participants will offer 10 per cent discount on books sold at the exhibition, he added. Society vice-president K. Lakshmaiah and former secretary Venkatanarayana also spoke.
