A 35-year-old woman and her 10-year-old son are believed to have jumped into the Nilwala River from the Mahanama Bridge in Matara last night. Police and navy divers are searching for them.

Police said they recovered a handbag and a pair of slippers which might have belonged to them.

Investigations revealed that the woman and the boy were from Ratmalana and that she was a former  school teacher. (Krishan Jeewaka  Jayaruk)
