Anusha Rizvi and Mahmood Farooqui give poetry session in Delhi a miss
'Peepli Live' director and co-director, Anusha Rizvi and her husband Mahmood Farooqui, who were supposed to participate in the recently-concluded Delhi Poetry Festival, failed to turn up at the event. This was supposed to be Farooqui’s first performance after a Delhi court granted him interim bail in October, after he was arrested for allegedly raping an American researcher in March this year.

The schedule of the second day of the festival had stated, “Dastan-e-Chouboli is a gripping adaptation of Vijaydan Detha’s version of the Rajasthani folktale that inspired the Bollywood movie, Paheli.
A riveting performance in Dastangoi format, coming from the popular duo of Mahmood Farooqui and Anusha Rizvi, this play will be an apt end to an exciting day of poetry.” However, the event was first delayed by an hour, and sources said that Anusha and Mahmood got stuck in a traffic jam, and as they had to go somewhere else, they didn’t turn up for their session at the poetry festival. One of the organizing team members, Sanjay Arora, later told us, “They committed that they will come, but they had to attend another event elsewhere, where they are celebrating 10 years of their group. What difference does it make? Someone from their team performed at the event. Isn’t that enough?” Well, not for the audience who had come to see the couple perform. They were visibly disappointed with the change.
