Woman locks out daughter, 6, for night
MYSURU: A six-year-old girl spent a night shivering in cold in the grilled verandah of a firstfloor house before police came to her rescue in the early hours of Monday . Sources said the girl was punished by her mother for allegedly tearing up school notes. The woman stays with her daughter and son, 7, in the house. Her husband is in Sharjah.
In the wee hours of Monday , one of the neighbours saw the girl in the locked-up verandah of the house in Shivarathreshwara Nagar, left to fend for herself. They called up the Child Helpline, which rushed a police in spector to the residence around 3am.
The inspector repeatedly knocked on their door to open a line of communication with the girl's mother, but the latter spurned all attempts.
After their earnest attempts failed, police used the tougher option of threatening the woman with a complaint. The mother then agreed to allow the girl back into the house by 4.45am.Neighbours who spoke to the girl claimed she was punished for messing up her school notes. Both children are studying in a central school.
Mandi Mohalla inspector Lakshmikanth Talwar said he deputed cops to ensure no harm was done to the girl. Assistant commissioner of police Umesh Shet said no police complaint has been registered yet.
