Vadodara shivers as mercury dips to 10 degrees celsius
Vadodara: The city experienced the coldest night of the season on December 21 night as temperature plummeted to 10 degree Celsius. The mercury dropped good four notches from the normal, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data. There is no respite in sight from the chill as the IMD has forecast that the temperature will remain around 10 degree Celsius till December 27.
While the day temperature hovers around pleasant 29 degree Celsius, the mercury plummets to as much as 19 degree Celsius in night. Citizens are flocking Tibetan market that is famous for selling woollen sweaters, clothes, jackets and scarves. The roads leading to the market opposite Navlakhi Ground are chock-a-block in evenings.
Health conscious Barodians, though, seem to be taking full advantage of the chilly weather. Gardens in the city are packed with morning walkers and joggers even as tea-stalls and natural juice counters do brisk business outside. Apart from city's biggest and oldest garden, Kamatibaug, the Akota-Dandia Bazaar Road is now a favourite spot for morning walkers.
The freezing nights are not a deterrent for young couples and college-goers who are seen going on long drives and even flocking ice-cream joints. Meanwhile, Saurashtra and Kutch groaned under piercing cold with Naliya in Kutch recording 5 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the state.
Two days ago, temperature had dropped to 2.6 degree Celsius in Naliya. On Sunday, night temperature fell appreciably in parts of Saurashtra and south Gujarat.
