Guwahati: The St. Francis De Sales School hosted an annual inter-school science fest, with innovation as its theme, on Friday and Saturday.
The event, organized every year to help students inculcate a scientific temper, saw participants from different schools of the city. The chief guest this year was Saurabh Basu, a faculty member at IIT-Guwahati. Basu encouraged the students to opt for innovation beyond textbooks.
"Think beyond books, think beyond school. Innovation is something which you need to explore," he said.
Some of the exhibits which attracted the students focused on economic development with the help of alternative sources of energy, green chemistry and robotics.
The winners of the quiz competition were Angarag Sandilya, Arindam Kashyap and Acharya Handique (Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School). The first runners-up were Padmanav Baruah, Saurav Das and Suchashish KS Thakur (Maria's Public School) and the second runners-up were Joydeep Bordoloi, Suvankar Paul and Bitopan Das (St. Francis De Sales School).
The winners of the science exhibition were Achinta Choudhary and Lokesh Pradhan of the host school. The first runners-up were Vikrant Sharma and Jyotiraditya Mahanta of Maria's Public School and the second runners up were Alakesh Bora and Himangshu Bora of Axel Public School.
In the debate competition, the winners were Pooja Sharma and Jaiaditya Dey of St. Francis De Sales School, while the first runners-up were Rashmita Das and Uddipan Mishra of Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School and the second runners-up were Akanksha Gupta and Arshia Mahanta of Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti School. The best speaker was Biplav Kumar Das from Modern English School.
