It was a night that had musician
Anoushka Shankar playing two shows back to back because of the excessive love that Bengaluru has for her
music. “I’ve played for two concerts consecutively but never because an additional show was added because of excessive ticket demands. In that way, this is a first,” she told us. Her renditions included only classical
ragas, in what she called a
tribute concert for her father and his music.
And many reminisced her concert with her father in the city around three years ago, which went on to be the last time they played together in India before
Pandit Ravishankar’s death.
Anoushka began with
raga Jogesgwari, which is a creation of her late father. This was followed by
Sandhya Raga in
raga Yaman Kalyan, which was composed by her father for his album Inside
The Kremlin. She concluded with the
raga Pancham Se Gara, which she played in several gats. It also had her accompanying
musicians having interesting
jugalbandis much to the delight of the crowd. The audiophiles were only left asking for more at the end of the one-and-a-half hour concert. We even came across a few who bought tickets for both the concerts that evening because they just wanted to listen to all that she had that evening. Little wonder then that Anoushka told us, “I love the
crowd in Bengaluru because they know their music and are appreciative about the musicians.”
