Woman throttles children to death

December 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 24, 2016 11:10 am IST - HYDERABAD:

In a shocking incident, a woman throttled her two daughters to death at her house in Mangalhat on Sunday evening, the police said.

The woman, Roja (21), was married to Sumit Pandey and the couple stayed in a rented house at Shivlalnagar in Mangalhat.

According to the family members, Sumit earlier earned a living by transporting illicitly distilled liquor on a two wheeler from Dhoolpet to different areas of the city.

However, he stopped a few months ago owing to a crackdown launched by various enforcement agencies to curb the sale, distillation and transportation of ID liquor.

Frequent quarrels

For the last few weeks, Sumit has been scolding his wife, five-year-old daughter Sumedhi Pandey and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Chinki Pandey over trivial issues resulting in frequent quarrels between the couple.

“At around 5.30 p.m., the woman throttled the two children when Sumit went out on some work,” Mangalhat SI, Venkat Reddy said.

A few minutes later, the neighbours and the man who returned found the children dead. “The woman might have planned to end her life after killing the children,” the SI added.

On receipt of information, the Mangalhat police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to Osmania General Hospital mortuary where a post mortem examination will be conducted.

The police took Roja into custody and were questioning her.
