‘Is it a crime for an Akali leader to own buses?’

On December 11, 12-year- old Arshdeep Kaur was run over by a bus of Deep Transport Company at Channu village in CM’s constituency Lambi ; on December 17, a bus of the company mowed down 10-year-old Gurdeep Kaur on Zira- Makhu road in Ferozepur district.

Defending himself further, Dhillon said: “My family started the transport company in 1974 when I was a child. I have worked hard to expand it. My involvement in politics and transport business should be kept separate.”

Dhillon also said that he was equally aggrieved as the parents who have lost their children in the accidents.

He, however, added that accidents happen every day across the state but do not get as much attention.

“We are ready to face action as per law and our buses have already been impounded in the police station while an FIR has been lodged,” he said.

He blamed Congress for playing politics over the issue,

“The Congress government was in power for 50 years but did not develop road infrastructure despite an increase in vehicular traffic. This is yet another reason for more accidents on roads. Our deputy CM is now getting the roads widened across the state.”
