Campaign for MLC election gains momentum in Mandya

Congress and BJP leaders address electorate at separate meetings

The campaign for Legislative Council elections for Mandya local authority constituency scheduled for December 27 has gained momentum here on Saturday with the leaders of the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) addressing meetings.

While the Congress held its meeting at Kalikamba Samudaya Bhavan, the BJP conducted it in Bandi Gowda Layout.

Congress

Housing Minister M.H. Ambareesh, who is also in-charge of Mandya district, in his address, requested the voters to elect the party’s candidate L.R. Shivarame Gowda to strengthen the party.

Mr. Amabareesh listed out several welfare programmes launched by the State government and complimented Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for his initiative.

The various welfare schemes introduced by Mr. Siddaramaiah had done a world of good to the poor, downtrodden and underprivileged sections of society.

The former Minister and Mandya District Congress Committee (MDCC) president M.S. Atmananda, All-India Congress Committee member Sathyan, Somashekar, Gangadhar and others were present.

BJP

A large number of BJP workers from different parts of the district attended the electoral meeting at the party office here.

The former Minister V. Somanna and the former MP Tejaswini Ramesh requested the electorate to vote for their candidate K. Naganna in the council election.

Janata Dal (S)

Meanwhile, leaders of the Janata Dal (Secular) have decided to organise a programme at the Silver Jubilee park here on Sunday as part of the campaign for Legislative Council election for Mandya local authority constituency.National president of the party and MP H.D. Devegowda and several senior leaders of the party would be attending the meeting and seeking votes for N. Appaji Gowda, the party’s candidate, M. Srinivas, former MLA, told presspersons here on Saturday.
