Record-breaking Chris Gayle becomes first player to hit 600 sixes in T20 cricket

New Delhi: Chris Gayle on Saturday became the first batsman to hit hit 600 sixes in Twenty20 cricket. The West Indian batsman achieved the feat during Melbourne Renegades' Big Bash League league game win over Brisbane Heat at Gabba.

Gayle hit two sixes in the third over of the match, bowled by Andrew Fekete to reach the record feat. In his 16-ball innings, the left-handed opener also hit two more fours to increase his fours count to 653, which is 11 behind Australian specialist Brad Hodge's record 664.

Renegades chased down Heat's target of 180 runs with three remaining with Gayle contributing 23.

The match also witnessed the flambouyant cricketer playing with a golden bat, specially prepared by manufacturer Spartan.

In May, the 36-year-old became the first player to hit 500 sixes in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match for Royal Challengers Bangalore. His sixes count in IPL is 206.
