Month on, man held for killing couple with acid
The police have arrested a 22-year-old man from Bihar on the charge of killing a Boisar couple by dousing them with acid. Guddu Yadav targeted the two following a tiff over a mobile phone last month. Mirror had reported the double murder in its November 9 edition.

Yadav had gone into hiding and was working as a labourer under an assumed name. He was picked up on Tuesday from his in-laws’ place in Patna district and brought to Boisar on Friday. A local court remanded him in police custody.

The accused and the victims – Rajkumar Rohidas and his wife Geeta, parents to three kids – worked at Paradise Acid and Chemicals and lived in staff quarters of the factory in Boisar MIDC, an industrial belt in Palghar and about 120 km from Mumbai.

In late October, Rajkumar had a showdown with Yadav after his mobile phone went missing. Rajkumar’s son claimed that he had seen Yadav stealing his father’s phone. Rajkumar complained against Yadav to their employer.

While the owner let off Yadav with a strict warning and ordered him to return the phone, the youth decided to take revenge, said Inspector P K Hegaje of Boisar MIDC police station. On the night of November 8, he entered the couple’s house and emptied a 50-litre concentrated sulphuric acid can on them, leading to their death.

Acting on a tip-off that Yadav was hiding in Hasanpur village in Bihar, Hegaje said, a police team was sent to the eastern state. But the young man got a wind of it and moved to his in-laws’ house in Ukda. “Since we had his photo, we tracked him down with the help of Bihar police.”
