The Creative Economy Agency has applauded President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's decision to annul the transportation minister's prohibition on ride-hailing applications, urging all ministries to be more flexible and willing to adapt to the fast pace of the creative economy.
Creative Economy Agency head Triawan Munaf said that he had held intensive discussions with Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki and State Secretary Pratikno regarding the issue on Thursday night, and was deeply relieved that the ban had been annulled on Friday.
'We must not allow ourselves to be left behind; we must look forward to the future. Technologies are changing at a great pace, and the digital creative industry must not be tied down with static regulations,' he told thejakartapost.com on Friday.
'President Jokowi has ordered the Transportation Ministry to regulate ride-hailing applications rather than banning them. This is necessary in a positive 'sharing economy',' Triawan said.
The agency, he continued, had formulated a number of regulations aimed at aiding the creative economy, including a recent antipiracy decree.
'We will also issue, in the near future, a regulation on the film industry. We need to have a very flexible attitude. At the same time, the agency has been closely monitoring any regulation susceptible of hampering the creative industries.' (ags)(+)
