Award
Lavanya Sankar, a Bharatanatyam exponent from Coimbatore, was awarded the ‘Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2013 & 2014’ by the Sangeet Natak Akademi. Governor of Tripura Tathagata Roy and chairman of the Akademi Shekhar Sen presented the award at a function held in Agartala, on December 7.
Trekking camp
Air Commodore GSPN Chowdary of Air Officer Commanding, 5 Base Repair Depot, has flagged off a motor cycle and trekking expedition to Munnar. According to a press release, the camp was organised in association with the Forest Department of Kerala to train the personnel under tough conditions. Fifty warriors have taken part in the expedition covering over 400 km on motor cycle and by foot.
Ayyapan Vilakku
Vadavalli Sree Ayyappa Seva Sangham will conduct the 18th Ayyapan Vilakku Mahotsavam at Vadavalli Bazaar Grounds on Saturday. It will commence with a Ganapathy homam at 4.30 a.m. Annadhanam will be held at the Marudappa Gounder Kalyana Mandapam, near Vadavalli, at 11.30 a.m.
Carnatic music workshop
The Karnataka Association will conduct a workshop from December 25, for contestants of the 8th Sangeetha Pethamaha Sri Purarandhara Daasar Krithi Music Competition. The 108 participants who passed the preliminary selection that was held in November will take part in the workshop.
