BENGALURU: In a rare arrest, a woman chain-snatcher was caught on charges of throwing chilli powder on an elderly woman, threatening her with a knife and stealing her gold chain. Eshwari, 27, currently in judicial custody, was arrested earlier for stealing gold in Kamakshipalaya.
Around 4pm on Wednesday, Annapoorna, 81, was walking outside her house at Raghavendra Colony in Kempegowda Nagar, south Bengaluru, when Eshwari approached her asking for an address.
As Annapoorna was collecting her thoughts, Eshwari threw chilli powder at her. She then threatened a stunned Annapoorana with a knife and snatched her chain worth Rs 40,000. Alert passersby caught Eshwari and handed her over to police. Cops found that Eshwari had been jailed earlier for stealing gold and silver ornaments from a house, where she was working.

Syed Pasha, 20, was caught while he was trying to snatch a cellphone from a woman in Gudadahalli, off Mysore Road, on Thursday. Divyashree, 30, a private firm employee, was walking when Pasha, riding a bike, brushed past her and tried to snatch her phone.Hearing her screams, people thrashed him and handed him over to cops.
