Forest officials take steps to ensure Kawal tigers breed

The male and female tigers are located about 5-10 km from each other and both are in the age group which is fit for breeding.
Hyderabad: The Telangana forest department is taking measures to ensure that the lone tiger pair in Kawal tiger reserve's core area do not shy away from mating. An official from the forest department said, “The male and female tigers are located about 5-10 km from each other and both are in the age group which is fit for breeding. Tigers aged between three and 10 years mate during any part of the year as there is no particular breeding season for them. However, they need a conducive, disturbance-free atmosphere for mating which the forest department will try to ensure."
Both tigers are around three to four years old. On Wednesday, principal chief conservator of forests P.K. Sharma directed Kawal tiger reserve's field director to procure 200 cameras so that the tigers can be tracked regularly. A team of forest rangers will be given the sole duty of keeping track of the tigers so that if either of them is not spotted for a long period, an alarm can be sounded.
The Amrabad tiger reserve has been directed to procure 200 cameras for intensive monitoring of its tiger population. The forest official said, “While having tigers in Kawal is great news for the forest department which had faced criticism for notifying forest land for tiger reserve when there were no tigers present in 2012, it is essential that the tigers breed. This is because their cubs will be the first original inhabitants of Kawal as the adults have migrated from some other forest. For the cubs Kawal will be their home.”
If the male and female tigers are caught together on camera trap, it will mean that they have mated.
