SAGARDIGHI (MURSHIDABAD): With developmentbeing firmly placed on her poll agenda, chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday told a gathering that political differences would not undermine growth.
The CM's rally on Dhamua Sports Complex grounds in Murshidabad coincided with her party leaders taking the battle to Congress satrap Adhir Chowdhury's bastion on Wednesday .
Keeping her development `promise', Mamata lay 91 foundation stones and announced another 91 projects, urging people to keep faith in her.
Refusing to name Adhir or target him directly , Mamata put the record straight. She said apart from her party MLA Subrata Saha, Trinamool had only two more MLAs in Murs hidabad--Chand Mohammad and Emanul Biswas. This, she said, wasn't a deterrent but a trigger to work more. “Nearly 1.45 lakh people directly and 71% in the district benefit from state services,“ she said. “Peo ple migrated to other parts for work. Now there is no need for it. I will generate employment here. We are setting up a zari hub, we will put up 500 additional stalls for trade,“ she added.
Mamata said she could ha ve done more only if she had more financial flexibility . “The Centre has scaled up its deductions from Rs 21,000 crore to Rs 28-30 crore,“ she said. “People should know how to work. There is no point in only diatribe. We are setting up a food processing park for which we have allocated Rs 2.5 crore. So far, 19 lakh people get rice at Rs 2-perkilogram, from January 27 another 56-lakh more people will get rice at Rs 3-per-kg.“
Among the projects unveiled is one that will ensure 1,500MW more power, cutting down on load-shedding in the area.
