power plant

Power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel) has commissioned a 500MW unit at the Sagardighi thermal power extension project, in the Indian state of West Bengal.

The project will involve an upgrade to the existing 600MW power plant at Sagardighi in Murshidabad district, which features two 300MW coal-fired units that had been commissioned under its first phase development.

The second phase will involve installation of two 500MW sub-critical units at the facility, of which the first has just been turned operational.

The second 500MW unit is also in advanced stage of completion, Bhel said.

The Indian firm has been supporting power infrastructure development in the state of West Bengal, and has supplied equipment for 73% of its coal-fired energy stations.
